Green Energy

It refers to the power generated from natural/renewable sources & do not emit harmful greenhouse gases unlike fossil fuels. Green Hydrogen, Green Ammonia plays a crucial role for a greener tomorrow & have minimal or no hazardous impact on the environment. The uncertain rise in the emission of carbon dioxide is resulting in climate change. As stated in the Paris Agreement (adopted in 2015), the targeted goal was to limit the temperature below 2°C through reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. As a result, countries started implementing & shifting towards carbon neutrality solutions.

Green Hydrogen (GH2)

Green Hydrogen on the other hand, has emerged as a critical enabler of deep decarbonization as unlike fossil fuels, it produces only water when used, making it a clean, zero emission energy carrier. As not all hydrogen is created equally, Green hydrogen is the only truly carbon free form as it is produced via electrolysis of water powered by renewable energy. In areas where direct electrification is difficult or impossible, green hydrogen holds the potential to replace fossil fuels.

Green Hydrogen Applications & Benefits

  • Energy storage carrier: Hydrogen enables the storage of surplus electricity which can be converted back to power whenever needed.
  • Decarbonizing industries: Industries like Refinery, Steel, Chemicals, Cement & Glass use coal/fossil fuel or natural gas for high temperature process requirements. Hydrogen can replace fossil fuels in industrial heating that will reduce CO₂ emissions. Grey Hydrogen is being replaced with Green hydrogen in process reactions of Industries (Reduction /Hydrogenation etc.)
  • Decarbonizing heavy transport: As battery powered solutions are not always viable for long haul trucks, ships, trains & all vehicles due to range limitations, hydrogen fuel cells offer a clean, high density alternative with fast refueling.
  • Fertilizer & chemical production: Green hydrogen is a key feedstock to produce green ammonia which is important for nitrogen based fertilizers. This will significantly cut the emissions in the agricultural & chemical sectors.
  • Aviation & maritime fuels: Hydrogen & its derivatives like ammonia are promising solutions for decarbonizing aviation & maritime transport chain. The hydrogen powered fuel cells emit water vapor resulting in reduced emission of other harmful gases.
